Wedding venues at Secrets & Dreams Playa Esmeralda: what each space is actually good for

I walked every one of these spaces myself, not just read the brochure. Here's what each one is actually good for, and where you need to ask more questions before you book it.

Quick context on the property itself: Secrets Playa Esmeralda is adults-only, 18+. Dreams Playa Esmeralda sits right next door and is family-friendly. They share a Convention Center. Which side you pick changes more than the guest list. It changes which venues are even on the table.

These two spaces work for either resort's couples and both allow children.

Capacity runs 100 to 125 people, and that range likely comes down to layout (ceremony rows versus reception tables), so confirm the exact number for your format before you commit to a guest count. It's included in any wedding package. Works for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and it's handicap accessible.

One thing to know before you picture this one: it's an elevated, covered stone terrace attached to the Convention Center, arched walkways, gardens and resort buildings in view. The word "terrace" suggests an ocean backdrop, but the actual view here is the resort grounds, not the water. Worth knowing if an ocean view is part of the vision.

If you go past 50 guests for a sit-down dinner, there's an additional fee, so check that number early if your group is creeping past 50. No confetti or rice, standard for every venue here. This one's worth seeing before you rule it out as "just a restaurant buyout." It's a covered, open-air space with a distinctive wave-textured ceiling and wood beams, stone pillars, and a mosaic-tiled lounge nook built into one corner. The view looks out over the pool and resort courtyard, not the ocean, so set that expectation with your couple early.

Secrets Playa Esmeralda is the adults-only side, and that changes which venues make sense for the couple and the guests. It also changes how private some of the beach options can feel.

I didn't run into this at Zemi Miches, so don't assume it's standard across every Miches-area property.

On property, this space carries its own name: Rita's Point, dedicated in memory of the Gardner family. This is the one I'd pick for my own wedding, and I mean that literally, not as a sales line. It's a $3,500 venue fee on top of the package, capacity runs 70 to 200 (confirm the exact number for your format, same as the Ballroom Terrace range), and it works for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.

Here's why I'd pay for it. It sits at the far end of Secrets' property, which makes it the most private beach location on site. During the day it's used by timeshare guests, and it closes in the evening, so there's no natural foot traffic pulling resort guests over there after dark. You're not competing with anyone wandering past your ceremony.

The setting is genuinely tropical, more lush than the main beach stretch, with two wooden walkways leading in. There's a wooden deck, part covered and part open to the sky, plus an air-conditioned indoor option if your group wants a break from the heat. The covered section sits under an open-slat wood roof, tall palms leaning in from both sides, with lounge seating already built into the deck and a low rail separating it from open sand. A money-saving tip: that wooden deck surface is solid enough to dance on. Skip the rental dance floor and put that budget toward something else. It's one of the few places on property where the venue fee actually buys you something a standard included space can't.

The property has a dedicated bridal suite: a full living area with sectional seating for the wedding party, a hair and makeup station with its own styling chair, and a separate dress-display area with a raised, mirrored platform built for that first look at the gown. It's a real getting-ready space, not just a nice hotel room with good lighting.

These are the details I'd ask about before you get attached to one space.
